What abrasive is used as infrared shielding filler for aerogel thermal insulation sheets of new energy vehicles?

Black SiC Micropowder is the most mainstream infrared shielding abrasive / inorganic filler for aerogel thermal insulation sheets of power battery packs at present.

Why choose black silicon carbide?

Infrared absorption / shielding performance: Black SiC contains a small amount of free carbon. It strongly absorbs and scatters mid-infrared radiation (2.5~7μm) generated during cell thermal runaway, greatly reducing radiative heat conduction of aerogel at high temperature and restraining thermal runaway propagation.

High temperature resistance: Black silicon carbide has a melting point of 2730℃.

It maintains dimensional stability at 1000–1600℃ without melting or decomposition, preserves the skeleton strength of aerogel and prevents collapse of insulation sheets under high temperature.

Cost advantage: black silicon carbide has lower smelting cost and is suitable for mass production of power batteries.

Chemical stability: Resistant to electrolyte corrosion; no toxic flue gas released at high temperature.

Most commonly used grades for infrared shielding of new energy vehicle aerogel thermal insulation sheets: 3-5μm
