What are the applications of silicon carbide in ceramics?
1. Application of silicon carbide in heating elements
Its conductive properties make it a raw material for manufacturing heating elements, and it is very popular in the application market.
2. Application of silicon carbide in metallurgy and chemical industry
Since the 20th century, silicon carbide materials have been found to be resistant to corrosion by molten iron, slag and alkali metals. Later, their high thermal conductivity and wear resistance were gradually discovered. Large blast furnaces generally use battery-based silicon combined with silicon carbide materials as the furnace body material because it can extend the life of the blast furnace and the smelting time of the product. Now silicon carbide materials are also widely used as furnace linings or pistons.
3. Applications of silicon carbide in energy
At high temperatures, the sensible heat of the gas in the heat exchanger can be used to directly purify the gas. Compared with purification at normal temperature, the thermal efficiency of the reaction can be greatly improved. High-temperature purified gas can directly increase the power generation capacity of gas turbines, which not only greatly improves power supply efficiency, but also reduces feed material emissions and saves water.
