Black Silicon Carbide F150/F180 Abrasive – A New Low-Chipping Solution for Waterjet Drilling of High Borosilicate Glass

Suitable processes for borosilicate glass: waterjet & abrasive jet drilling (Borosilicate 3.3 glass: tea sets, glass tubes, sight glasses, lab glassware)
✅ Grit selection
Black SiC F150 (coarse): Fast cutting for large holes on thick borosilicate tubes/plates. High efficiency, slight rough edges, needs light polishing.
Black SiC F180 (recommended): Balances speed & hole quality. Sharp, self-sharpening, low chipping rate, uniform hole wall. Most popular for glass waterjet drilling.
Vs green SiC: Black SiC has better toughness, less glass cracking, higher cost-effectiveness. Green SiC only for mirror finish holes.

📌 Parameters
Mohs hardness:9.2 (borosilicate glass ~7)
SiC ≥98.6%, low iron — no yellow stains on clear glass
F150:63–106 μm; F180:53–75 μm
Recyclable, low loss

⚙️ Operation Notes
Do not use excessive water pressure, F180 is preferred. Too high pressure leads to chipping.
Keep sand supply stable; grit must be dry and lump-free.
Use 220#/240# black SiC for fine finishing if scratch-free holes are needed.
